Kevin Eastman (co-creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and IDW Publishing will be hosting the public debut of the Hero Initiative’s “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 100 Project”!
All 100 original covers from Hero Initiative’s The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 100 Project will make their public debut in a gala event here at SDCAG.
IDW Publishing provided special, limited-edition blank covered copies of the landmark Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles#50, and Hero Initiative commissioned 100 well known artists including Dale Keown, Whilce Portacio, Bill Sienkiewicz, Walter Simonson and more to create original drawings right on the covers. All the amazing art will be on display, for one night ONLY, June 3 (the same night as the release of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows movie)!
And there’s MORE: Kevin Eastman did an additional 15 original covers (a preview of a few can be seen below) which will be available for purchase the night of the event for $250, and he’ll be live-sketching two additional covers. Other participating artists, including Sara Richard and Joe Phillips, will be in attendance, too, with more live sketching from the artists.
All art on display and produced the night of June 3 will be available this fall in The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 100 Project, a book available in both hardcover and softcover from IDW. All the covers will go up for auction on eBay.com starting on June 14, 2016.
“I can not think of a better way to honor and celebrate the ART of the medium we all work in,” said Kevin Eastman “A special event, in a gallery setting created for our ART, while raising money to help the ARTISTS in need who originally inspired us!”
Admission is FREE (entrance donations to the Hero Initiative will be appreciated) and light refreshements will be available. The event runs from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
A splendid time will be had by all in an awesome event to raise funds for Hero Initiative, a charity near and dear to us all!
Stay tuned to Twitter today as we reveal the rest of Kevin’s covers that will be for sale tomorrow night!

About Hero Initiative –
In late 2000, a consortium of comic publishers came up with the idea to create a financial safety net for comic creators, much in the same fashion that exists in almost any other trade from plumbing to pottery. By March of 2001, the federal government approved The Hero Initiative as a publicly supported not-for-profit corporation under section 501 (c) (3).
Since its inception, The Hero Initiative (Formerly known as A.C.T.O.R., A Commitment To Our Roots) has had the good fortune to grant over $700,000 to over 50 comic book veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today.
The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays’ creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It’s a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment.
